FAQ

What is Dance Hohm? Dance Hohm is a space to move. It is an invitation to move out of your head and tune into your body. To follow your body’s natural and intuitive movements to music that invokes play, flow, connection, and release. If you arrive tired, rest. If you arrive energized, shake. Come as you are. This is not pretty or performative dancing. This is releasing what “good” looks like and letting your animal body speak. This is connecting with the collective while in your own journey. This is exploration, expression, and healing through movement.

Our intention is to hold a safe container of embodied movement where we meet edges, move mindfully, play in wonder, dance for our ancestors, re-member ourselves, get grounded, get loose, and get present.

Is this ecstatic dance? No, this is not ecstatic dance. Dance Hohm is similar in that it is free-form dance and we curate a unique musical journey/setlist each time. Our container is different because throughout the journey, we offer facilitation (everything is optional) that is designed to invite you to meet new edges and hold you throughout the journey.

How do I prepare for class? We suggest cessation of eating 2 hours before class. Dress comfortably. Layering is a good option. Floors are hardwood. We move on bare feet, without shoes. Dance socks and soft dance shoes are allowed if you need.

Do I need any dance experience? Nope! No dance background or fitness level is required. All are welcome.

Can I still join if I have an injury or limited mobility? Yes. Dance can be done and felt with so much of the body, be it your conscious breath or moving just one wrist and hand. You are welcome to engage yourself as much as you are physically able. We trust everyone to care of their body as needed. What is most important is your full presence and awareness in the room. There will be a few seats available to those who need a chair.

Can I bring my kids? Teenagers 13+ are welcome. We are working on a paid childcare option during dance for those with young children aged 3+. If you are interested in childcare, please let us know and we will keep you updated when we begin this program.
